About Bake N' Brek

My name is Caitlin!
I started a baking and breakfast instagram account focusing on low fodmap recipes after finishing grad school and moving back to my hometown of Chicago.
The account is a compilation of things I love: breakfast, baking, and belly-friendly recipes! As I began posting recipes, I began to create more myself and wanted to share them. Thus, this blog was born. I am so excited to share recipes that I am creating and hope they help you find sweet recipes that satisfy your cravings and mollify your gut! I also hope that this site will be a place of support for those going through issues with their guts!
Things I Do
Post resources and support those with gut issues
Post recipes of my own for you to try!
Low- Fodmap other Recipes
Going through IBS or other intestinal issues can be very difficult. Anxiety and loneliness can run rampant. I aim to post content to help people realize that they have options for food and enjoyment and that they ARE NOT ALONE!
As a very new and amateur baker, I am just starting to create my own recipes that I am so excited to share with others!
I often find amazing recipes from other accounts that I want to try but they make not fit the typical low-fodmap diet. I thus try to low-fodmapify that recipe according to my own fodmap personalization and give options for others following their own personalization for the low-fodmap diet.
The Baking and Breakfast Story
My IBS and Low Fodmap Story
I was diagnosed with IBS about 6 years ago and struggled with managing it for a long while even before the diagnosis. I had tried just avoiding some foods, probiotics, antibiotics, you name it--nothing was truly working. After a particularly awful symptom-filled summer and year from 2019-2020, creating the beginnings of body-image issues, I decided that I could not go on without some type of relief. However, I was not comfortable with the medication options that my GI was suggesting.
Per my a new suggestion from my general physician, I began the Low-FODMAP diet process. Personally this, as well as increased exercise and mindfulness to reduce stress, provided immense relief for me. I continue to follow the Low-FODMAP diet with my personal restrictions/tolerances after going through reintroduction.
